Participating artists: Gordon Dalton, Michelle Deignan,
HK119, and Alex Pearl
COLONY presents ‘Black Light’, an exhibition of video work by national and international artists. The exhibition aims to suggest possibilities outside of any straightforward linear narrative, and seeks to explore the potential of video as
a medium.
Michelle Deignan often works with
the structure of film making, and plays directly with narrative and the nature
of film presentation. Alex Pearl makes throwaway, sketch-like films, which are
by turns odd, funny and disconcerting. HK119 is the alter ego of Heidi Kilpelainen, who makes retro-minimal pop videos with references to angular modernist forms and early techno. Gordon Dalton uses a mix
of sculpture and video that reference pop culture, music and the Wild West. Dalton will create a new project specifically for ‘Black Light’, by embedding a video
work within a provocative installation.
The exhibition will showcase the diverse breadth of video currently being produced in the uk. colony will use three gallery spaces, allowing each work the space to breathe and assert itself. The exhibition hopes to explore modes of group presentation whilst also presenting
distinct art practices.
